Raid conducted by Bantwal police: 8 arrested for illegal sand extraction, boats and trucks seized

Bantwal: A raid was conducted by the sleuths of Bantwal Rural Police station at Mularpatna in the taluk where they seized boats and trucks and arresting eight people involved in illegal sand extraction.

The arrested accused are Muhammed Ashfaq, Muhammed Asif, Muhammed Iqbal, Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Samad, Sirajudin, Jalaludin and Hamza.

According to sources, based on credible Intel, the police formed a team and performed the raid. The police have arrested eight accused and confiscated 10 boats and four tippers used for extraction of illegal sand from the River Phalguni.

Dakshina Kannada Additional SP V S Sajeeth led the raid operation. He said that based on complaints that illegal sand extraction was being conducted, a team was formed and the raid was conducted alongside Bantawal tahsildar Purandara Hegde.

The accused have been remanded judicial custody of 15 days after being produced to the court.

A case against illegal sand extraction have been registered at Bantawal Rural police station.
