Kumta: Pratima Patgar, a student, pursuing Engineering studies at a college in Dharwad, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan here at her residence in Hegde region in Kumta taluk on Tuesday evening. 

Sources said that the victim had come to her hometown after finishing semester exams. The cause for the suicide is yet to be ascertained.

A case has been registered in Kumta police station and police are investigating into the matter.
