Bhatkal: An auto-rickshaw driver lost control and overturned while attempting to avoid a crossing cow. The driver, identified as Nagesh Krishna Gonda, sustained serious injuries in the accident. Despite immediate efforts to transport him to Bhatkal Government Hospital and subsequent plans to shift him to Manipal Hospital for further treatment, Gonda tragically succumbed to his injuries before crossing the Bhatkal border. The incident unfolded on Wednesday in Marukeri, Kotakhand under Bhatkal Rural police station limit.

The accident occurred as Gonda was en route from Bhatkal to Marukeri when a cow unexpectedly appeared on the road near Kotakhand. In his attempt to evade the animal, Gonda lost control, resulting in the overturning of the auto-rickshaw.

Following the incident, a significant number of people gathered at Bhatkal Government Hospital to pay their last respects to Gonda and offer condolences to his grieving family. The Bhatkal Auto Drivers Association also expressed their condolences.

The Bhatkal rural police station has registered a case, with CPI Chandanagopal leading the investigation.
