Bhatkal: Woman and boy die in Kadvinkatta river drowning; Third incident in 30 days

Bhatkal: A woman and a boy died after drowning in the Kadvinkatta river. The incident happened on Friday around 4 pm.The deceased have been identified as Parvati Shankar Naik (39) and Suraj Pandu Naik (17).

It is learned that due to the intense heat, seven youths, including three girls from the same area, were bathing in the river when Suraj started drowning. Seeing him struggle, Parvati Naik, the mother of Suraj's friend who was on the riverbank, jumped into the river to save him. Unfortunately, both drowned.

Upon receiving the information, many people from the Kadvinkatta area gathered on the riverbank. Some of them retrieved the bodies of both victims and transported them to Bhatkal Government Hospital.

News of the deaths prompted many people to gather at the Bhatkal Government Hospital. Both bodies have been kept at the mortuary for post-mortem.

It has been learned that Parvati Naik was the wife of Shankar Naik, a municipal worker who served as the driver for the municipal chief officer.

Suraj Naik was reported to be a first-year student at ITI Government College at Sarpankatta in Bhatkal taluk.

It is noteworthy that this is the third drowning incident in the last 30 days. The first incident occurred on April 21, when two people, including a child, drowned in the Arabian Sea at Sodigedde beach. The second incident took place on May 5 in the Arabian Sea at Murdeshwar beach, also resulting in two deaths. This third incident happened in the Kadvinkatta river today, resulting in two more deaths. Within the last thirty days, a total of six people have drowned.
