Coastal districts placed under yellow and orange alerts

Mangaluru: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued both yellow and orange alerts for the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada until Tuesday.

In Uttara Kannada district, three locations in Honnavar taluk received the highest rainfall in the state on Monday. Kelginoor recorded 149 mm of rainfall, followed by Kharwa (143 mm) and Melina Idgunji (141 mm). The IMD has predicted scattered and widespread light rainfall throughout the day. In the evening, there were isolated heavy rains in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Earlier, the IMD had already issued a warning for fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea, and now the advisory has been extended until July 1.

The IMD states that squally weather with wind speeds of 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is expected along and off the Karnataka coasts.

The IMD also predicts very heavy rainfall of 115 mm to 244 mm at isolated places in Uttara Kannada district, and 64 mm to 115 mm at isolated places in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of coastal Karnataka.
