Kumta: In a tragic incident on the Mirjan National Highway 66 in Kumta on Monday, a father and his daughter were killed in a road accident while returning home after shopping for the upcoming Eid festival. Another daughter was injured in the accident and has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

The deceased were identified as Ishaq Shaikh, 40, from Bergi Village in Kumta, and his 12-year-old daughter, Sana Shaikh. They were on a scooter with another daughter, 13-year-old Simran Shaikh, when their vehicle struck the road divider, causing them to fall onto the road and sustain serious injuries. Bystanders quickly transported the victims to the Kumta taluk hospital. Unfortunately, Sana Shaikh died before reaching the hospital, and her father, Ishaq Shaikh, succumbed to his injuries later that night in a hospital in Mangalore. Simran Shaikh, who suffered a fractured hand, received initial treatment at the Kumta government hospital before being transferred to a private hospital.

A case has been registered at the Kumta Police Station in connection with the accident.
