Ice cream storage shed, canter gutted near M’luru

Mangaluru(TNN): An ice cream cold storage shed and canter with milk and milk products were damaged in a fire reported at Adyarkatte in the early hours of Tuesday.

District fire officer, Kadri, Mohammed Zulfikar Nawaz said the shed belongs to Polar Distributors and the exact reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained. On receiving information around 2am, three fire tenders, one from Pandeshwar and two from Kadri fire stations were pressed into action. The fire was brought under control in about 90 minutes.

The shed located near a house and the insulated vehicle that was parked outside were damaged. The documents including the trade license are being verified and police have also launched an investigation. The estimated loss is yet to be ascertained, he said.

According to sources, the godown belongs to a super stockist of KMF Nandini ice cream. Sources in the godown said that ice cream worth Rs 1 crore, and cold storage facilities have also been gutted. The super stockist was supplying products to distributors from Kasaragod to Karwar. It is suspected that a short circuit may have caused the fire. The total estimated loss is suspected to be around Rs 4 to 5 crore, said sources.
