Kumta: Man assaults his wife over a land dispute

Kumta: A land dispute has resulted in the husband assaulting his wife by pelting a stone at her head when she tried to stop him from selling a piece of land without their children's consent. The victim has sustained serious injuried to her head. The incident was reported on 2nd June, Thursday in old Herwatta in Kumta.

The assailant, identified as Udaya Shet, is a resident of Old Herwatta. The police are in search of Subramanya Pandurang Raikar who has been absconding since the incident.

Sources say that Udaya is addicted to alchohol and had spent all his savings on it. He had even sold his wife's jewellery to satiate his alcohol addiction.  Currently, a piece of land was sold to Subramanya Raikar, who had secretly registered in his name, unbeknownst to any of the family members.

The wife of Udaya Shet when she came to know of this, opposed and stopped Subramanya Raikar when he had purchased the land. Enraged over the constant opposition from his wife and the family members, he assaulted his  wife by pelting stones resulting in serious injuries to her head.

In this regard, a case has been registered in Kumta police station and further investigations are on.
