According to Manorama News, the victim, Mohandas, 65, from Kumarasami, Kakkodi, was unable to be rescued from the burning car despite the efforts of fishermen and beachgoers. Although the car door was opened, the rescuers could not extricate him because his seat belt got stuck, and the flames quickly engulfed the vehicle. By the time fire force rescuers arrived at the scene, Mohandas had already been burned to death.

“We got a call by 12.15 pm and we reached there by 12.19 pm. When we arrived, the flames had totally engulfed the car and he was burned to death,” said a fire officer from Beach Fire Station. The traffic police subsequently shifted the body to the mortuary at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode.

Mohandas was alone in the car at the time of the incident. He was driving from the Kozhikode beach area to Vengali. He had formerly worked as a driver for the Kozhikode Corporation office.
