Bhatkal: In an attempt to create fresh trouble in Murdeshwar, stones were pelted on Fathima Masjid and a neighboring house, at Eidgah road, near Urban bank on Thursday evening.

According to the sources, 2 policemen were deployed in front of the Masjid owing to the incident on Wednesday, when a person was beaten by a youth resulting in which the situation was tense. But in-spite of such arrangement, it is said that 4 people including 2 on a bike arrived, pelted stones on Masjid and fled.

As the news spread in the region people started gathering in front of the Masjid creating a tense situation. Bhatkal police rushed to the spot and made suitable arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents. Additonal SP from Karwar Devraj, Bhatkal ASP Anup Kumar Shetty, CPI Prashant Nayak visited the spot and inspected and urged the people to maintain peace.

The window panes of the Masjid and adjacent house which belongs to Shaikh Muhiddin Kola has been damaged.

The situation remained tense for a period of time, but police assured the local Muslims that police will arrest the miscreants very soon.

It is said that nearly 200 people crowded the Masjid premises and demanded the police to take action against the perpetrators.

The situation was brought under control, but Muslims have expressed displeasure over this incident. The police have appealed to the people to maintain calm and peace and not to get provoked.

Additonal SP Devraj is camping in the town. He said the situation was under control. Arrangements have been made for heavy police patrolling at night.
