The area, previously known as "Malik Ka Bageecha," has now been renamed "Police Ka Bageecha" by authorities. The demolition of the mosque and madrassa in Haldwani's Banbhoolpura triggered widespread protests among residents, resulting in clashes with law enforcement. Media reports indicate that five individuals lost their lives and several others were injured in police firing during the unrest.

In response to the situation, authorities in Haldwani implemented various measures to restore order, including the suspension of internet services, temporary closure of schools, imposition of a curfew, and prohibition of large gatherings.
