Mangaluru: A man was arrested by Sullia police in Dakshina Kannada district for moral policing on Saturday.

The accused has been indentified as Puneeth from Sonangeri in Sullia taluk.

The complaint came from Mohammed Jaleel, 39, from Malappuram, Kerala. Jaleel, living in Sullia's Aranthodu area, had leased a rubber plantation three months ago. During a recent incident, a woman he knew arrived from Madikeri, seeking a room to rest in Sullia.

There, he was ambushed by five individuals in a car and on a scooter. They verbally abused, physically assaulted, and threatened him before leaving. Jaleel identified three of them as Lathish Gundya, Varshit, and Puneeth.

Sullia police filed a case against them under various IPC sections, including 143, 147, 341, 323, 504, 506, 153 (A), and 149.
