Bhatkal: FIRs have been lodged against 192 BJP leaders and workers in six assembly constituencies of Uttara Kannada district under the direction of respective election officers.

According to sources, a BJP election campaign program was held on May 3 in Hattikeri of Ankola taluk, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Buses were arranged to bring hundreds of people from all six assembly constituencies of the district to the program. However, it has been reported that the buses were reserved without the approval of the Election Commission. As a result, the election officers from various assembly constituencies have filed FIRs against 192 BJP leaders and workers at their respective police stations.

Sources have revealed that 78 cases have been registered at Kumta police station alone. Additionally, FIRs have been filed against 12 individuals in Karwar, 16 in Bhatkal, 22 in Yellapur, 46 in Sirsi, and 18 in Haliyal.

Despite the implementation of the election code of conduct, the buses transported people to Ankola for the PM Modi program without obtaining approval from the Election Officer.

It is learned that the Transport Department issued a notice to the BJP candidates regarding this matter. In response, the BJP candidates stated that they did not reserve the buses themselves, but rather, the supporters of Modi managed the buses. Consequently, the police have registered cases against the individuals who booked the buses based on the instructions of the election officers.
