Rs 4.86 Crore Drought Relief Distributed to 27,000 Farmers: Udupi DC Vidya Kumari

Udupi: Deputy Commissioner K Vidya Kumari announced that 27,000 paddy farmers affected by drought have received a total compensation of Rs 4.86 crore, disbursed in 10 phases and credited directly to their bank accounts. 

She also reported that the Varahi irrigation project is nearing completion, with a trial run scheduled for the end of May to assess the feasibility of supplying water to Udupi CMC areas, using 0.69 tmc of water.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal noted that 82% of households have been provided with functional tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Scheme, which includes 525 single-village and two multi-village drinking water schemes. 

The district administration is taking over the Kollur Sewage Treatment Plant due to poor maintenance by the private company previously responsible. 

Additionally, there were 70 dengue cases recorded by the end of April, compared to 635 cases and two deaths in 2023.
