Bhatkal: A huge pile of trash has accumulated on the roadside of Bhatkal National Highway 66, near Hanifabad Cross, under the Heble Panchayat limits. The situation is so bad that people passing through the area on bikes and autos instinctively cover their noses, while those in four-wheelers and heavy vehicles prefer to speed past the foul-smelling area as quickly as possible.
Since this pile of trash and filth has been gathered along the National Highway for more than a week, people are compelled to ask why the city officials have not noticed it yet.
People of Bhatkal are discussing on social media that under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, various programs are organized to keep the environment clean, and officials give speeches and address students about maintaining cleanliness on Environment Day. However, people are puzzled as to how such a large pile of trash along the highway has escaped the notice of the concerned officials.
It is noteworthy that a similar situation existed earlier along Madina Colony, Jamia Abad Road, and Hanifabad Road. However, with the cooperation of local residents, the Heble Panchayat installed CCTV cameras in those areas. They also imposed a ban on dumping garbage there, with warnings of fines and complaints to the police station for violators. As a result, those areas have been cleaned up, but now people have chosen the National Highway side to dispose of their trash.
It is reported that garbage collection vehicles visit every house in the morning to collect trash. However, seeing the piles of trash on the highway, it is suspected that these vehicles are not reaching every house, leading people to dump their garbage along the highway.
To preserve the beauty of the city and protect public health, it is essential for government officials and local residents to work together to find a solution to this problem. Through joint community efforts and adherence to cleanliness principles, a clean and healthy environment can be established. It remains to be seen whether the concerned authorities will take appropriate measures to remove this pile of trash and prevent further accumulation in this area, or if they will continue to pass by with closed eyes and noses.
