Honnavar: A huge tree fell on a moving bike in Nagar Bastikeri of Honnavar taluk, injuring the husband and wife riding the bike. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon.

In the accident, Babu Naik (52) of Honnavar taluk, who was riding the bike, was injured. However, Bhagirathi Naik, who was seated on the back of the bike, escaped unhurt. It is learned that they were returning home after attending a relative's funeral in Nagar Bastikeri when the accident happened.

Upon seeing the tree fall on the bike, other bikers passing by immediately rushed to help. Meanwhile, Bhatkal BJP leaders Govind Naik, Srikant Naik, and Ganapati Gowda, who were also traveling on the same route in a car, came forward to assist.

People first removed the branches of the tree and rescued Bhagirathi. Then, they extricated Babu Naik and took him to the hospital.

It should be noted that coastal Karnataka, including Honnavar, has been experiencing heavy rain for the past three to four days.
