Truck Drivers to Commence Indefinite Strike on Sept 29 at New Mangalore Port

Mangaluru: Truck drivers responsible for transporting goods from the New Mangalore Port are set to commence an indefinite strike starting on Friday, September 29.

Their demands include an increase in rental rates for trucks, among other requests.

Senior police officers attempted to mediate between the truck owners' association and transporters during a conciliatory meeting held at the Panambur ACP's office on Wednesday. However, these efforts proved unsuccessful in bridging the gap between the two parties, leading the truck owners to confirm their plans for a protest beginning on Friday.

Sushanth Shetty, the President of the truck owners' association, expressed their dissatisfaction, stating, "The rental rates for trucks have not been raised as per our demands. An increase of Rs 100 per ton from the current rate is insufficient. Consequently, we will stage an indefinite protest until our demands are met."
