Two Indian pilgrims die in elevator accident during Hajj in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: Two Indians lost their lives after the lift they were using crashed. The incident took place on Thursday, June 2, in building number 145 at Aziziya, opposite Jamia Bin Mehfooz, during the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

According to eyewitnesses, several Indian pilgrims suffered injuries due to the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Siddique (73) and Abdul Latif (70), both natives of Bihar. The extent of the injuries sustained by others remains unknown.

According to media reports quoting eyewitnesses, pilgrims staying on the fourth floor opened the elevator door to get out. However, the lift was at the top, and the pilgrims accidentally entered the shaft and fell.

The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia tweeted, “@hajmission please urgently look into the matter and provide all assistance to the pilgrims.”

The Indian Haj Pilgrims Office tweeted, “Officials of the Indian Haj Mission are coordinating with concerned Saudi authorities, who are investigating this matter. All necessary assistance is also being provided to the Indian Haj Pilgrims.”
