Belagavi: Farmers from Kanabaragi village protested outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Belagavi on Friday demanding that the Belagavi Urban Development Authority drop plans of acquiring 160 acres of land in the village, which borders the city, to turn it into a residential layout.
They said that they were losing fertile lands of 160 acres and their livelihoods would be affected.
Compensation takes a long time to come and is far less than adequate. Hence, BUDA should drop the idea of acquisition, they said.
The former Mayor Shivaji Suntkar, BJP Mahanagar President Rajendra Harkuni, party leader Anil Benake, Sri Ram Sene leader Ramakanth Konduskar and others joined the strike.
