Farmers shunning agriculture, a concern says MLA

Karwar: It is a matter of grave concern that in these days that the farmers are moving away from their trading vocation - agriculture though the government has been implemented several schemes for improving the agriculture sector”, regretted MLA Roopali Naik.

Lack of labourers

She was speaking after inaugurating an interaction programme between the farmers and the agriculture scientists that had been organised at the Taluk Panchayat Hall, in Karwar, on Wednesday.

Roopali Naik further said, the majority of farmers were not showing any interest to take up agriculture activity due to deficient rainfall, lack of sufficient labourers and other problems affecting their occupation.

one can,  however, profit in the agriculture by adopting advanced technology and innovative methods, the MLA suggested.

Kumta Agriculture Science Centre’s Dr G V Naik also spoke. Dr Nagaraj, Dr P D Desai and others were present on the occasion.
