Fate of 46 candidates in fray locked in EVMs

Karwar: The fate of 46 candidates in the six assembly constituencies in the district was sealed in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), after the voting held on Saturday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Now, everyone will eagerly waiting for the vote counting day.

The voting began from 7:00 am in the district. Hundreds of voters were lined up in to cast their votes at Saint Michael’s Convent, Diwekar College, Municipal Office and other polling booths.

Voters expressed happiness over the move of Election Commission of India, for implementing VVPATs along with EVMs, which helped them to confirm their votes. Voters opined that for the conduct of transparent voting, VVPATs are very useful.

In most of the constituencies, senior citizens visited the polling booths and exercised their franchise early in the morning.

The aged persons were accompanied by their family members cast their votes at Medicitta Government Model Primary School near Majali, Shivaji Composite PU College in Chittakula, Sadashivghad’s High School and in other booths.

Speaking to media person, a retired railway police inspector Joman Ramanaik (86) said, voting is every citizens Constitutional right. One should not stay away from taking part in electoral process. Similarly, Leelabai Kashinath Naik (81), Prema Shantaram Naik (81), Vanita Ghanasyam Nayak (70), Ramabai Rane (85) and other senior citizens waited in long queues to cast their votes.

Tight security measures were taken by the local and Goa police, armed reserve force, railway staff and other security companies in all the constituencies across the district.

Most of the polling booths were decorated with garlands and balloons. Deputy Commissioner  S S Nakul paid visit to many polling booths and inspected. Prior to this, he had inspected the CCTV footage at his office.
