Karwar: The process of filing of nominations for assembly elections, which will be held on May 12, begins from April 17 (Tuesday) and April 24 will be the last day for filing nominations. Apart from public holidays, one can file their nomination between 11 am to 3:30 pm.
Sirsi BJP candidate Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri and Yallapur Congress candidate Shivram Hebbar are expected to file their nominations on April 19. Haliyal Congress candidate R V Deshpande is likely to file his nomination on April 20, Sirsi Congress candidate Bheemanna Naik, JD(S) candidate Shashibhushan Hegde and Karwar JD(S) candidate Anand Asnotikar are expected to file their nominations on April 23.
Scheduled time
Candidates must submit their nominations with the election officer or suggested assistant election officer before scheduled time. If, there are more number of nominations, election officer should summon all of them to his office.
Later, he can accept nominations one after the other. During nomination filing, candidates must provide security deposit, submit affidavit, property details and other mandatory documents.
While, receiving nominations, there is opportunity for election observer can accompany the election officer and all process should be video recorded.
To maintain security, the election commission has framed set of rules and directed its officials to implement them compulsorily and strictly.
Including vehicle of nomination filing candidate, total of three vehicles can be parked at a distance of 100 metre from the place of filing. Including the candidate, only five people can enter the electoral officer’s office.
Deputy superintendent of police or other senior grade officials will be nodal officers. Offices of both election officer and nodal officers should be in one place and they can hold responsibility of two constituencies.
The election commission has kept hawk’s eye on all the processes for strict implementation of all rules and regulations.
If rules are violated disciplinary action will be taken against respective candidates and political parties.
