Bhatkal: A 56-year-old fisherman went missing after his small country boat capsized in the rough waters of the Arabian Sea off Jali Kodi coast in Bhatkal taluk on Tuesday afternoon. Local fishermen and the Coastal Security Police (CSP) launched a search operation, which continued till late evening.
The missing fisherman has been identified as Manjunath Moger (56), a resident of Jali. According to CSP PSI Veena Chitrapur, the incident occurred at around 2 pm when he had ventured alone into the sea for fishing. His boat overturned after being hit by strong waves, throwing him into the water.
As news of the incident spread, local fishermen rushed to the spot in their boats and began searching for the missing man. Personnel from the CSP also joined the operation.
The search operation was hampered by rough sea conditions, with the Karnataka coast witnessing continuous rain over the past three days. High waves and turbulent waters made rescue efforts difficult, while the search for the missing fisherman was still underway when this report was filed.
