Karwar: All along the good roads, travellers, on National Highway, beside the Arabian Sea, will henceforth be welcomed with tree lined avenue that bear beautiful and colorful flowers.
Flower bearing tree saplings are currently being planted on the road median of Sadashivgada area on the outskirts of the City.
As travellers cross the Kali River Bridge, and head towards Goa, they well be welcomed with flowering trees on the red soil.
Similarly, work on about seven km of Karnataka-Goa border is also being taken, say the workers.
The quadrilateral work of National Highway 66 is managed by Ideal Road Builders (IRB). As part of the project, flowering plants are being grown and in the next few months, red, white and yellow-coloured flowers will bloom and greet those traversing along the neatly laid national highway.
Advantage to drivers
One such traveller Venkatesh Kulkarni opined that such bunches of colourful flowers on the road medians would be of advantage to the drivers.
Appreciating the initiative, he said, “driving beside the flower bushes will be naturally refreshing. Moreover, it helps drivers during the night. The headlights of vehicles coming from front tires the eyes when too bright. The bushes in the middle prevents it. This is indeed good piece of work.”
However, bike rider Sunil begged to differ. According to Sunil, “while the plants may certainly enhance the beauty of the roads, it creates problems for drivers. When driving in the hot afternoon, if another small car speeds fast from the another side, it becomes hard for the driver to know about it. The chances accident too is more while moving from one side of the road to the other side”.
