Kumta: The district administration of Uttara Kannada has decided to temporarily shift 219 people of 39 families inTandrakuli in Kumta taluk, where three children of a family were killed in land slide during last mansoon.
The families can return to their villages after three months. The decision to this effect was taken at an officials’ meeting, chaired by Assistant Commissioner K Laxmipriya with villagers and officials of NH construction company IRB on Friday.
Last year, three children were buried alive and several others were injured due to the landslide at Tandrakuli village, in the taluk, during the National Highway widening work.
Following this, it has now been planned to shift some of the families to a safer place from the village.Assistant Commissioner Laxmipriya said a total of 219 people of 39 families are residing at Tandrakuli. They have been advised to shift to a safer places for three months during the rainy season. A sum of Rs 10,000 per month would be provided to each person. It is said that the hill that was cut down for the work has not yet stabilised and it may cause landslide during heavy rainfall.
Uttara Kannada in-charge deputy commissioner L Chandrashekar Naik said Tandrakuli has been identified critical area by IRB Infra and NHAI. Therefore the families living nearbythe critical area will be temporarily shift to other places till monsoon gets over.
