Karwar: As many as four applications in the district were rejected by the election officials as they were not in order. With this, six constituencies of the district are left with 58 candidates in the race.
Before scrutinising of papers, there were 62 candidates in the district. However, election officials rejected the papers of three candidates in Karwar-Ankola constituency and one candidate’s paper in Haliyal-Joida. Officials rejected the nomination paper of MEP candidate from Karwar-Ankola constituency as Leelabai Thankekar had mentioned in her application as ‘unidentified party’. Independent candidate Rajesh Prabhakar’s papers were rejected as he had not deposited required amount as deposit. Subash Vaddar had not mentioned required number of proposers, informed Election Officer B Abhijin.
In Haliyal-Joida assembly constituency, second candidate of BJP Suvarna Hegde was rejected as he had not attached ‘B form’ along with the application. With this, there are eight candidates left in Sirsi-Siddapur, nine in Karwar-Ankola, 10 each in Yellapur-Mundgod, Bhatkal-Honnavar and Haliyal-Joida, 14 in Kumta-Honnavar.
