Govt orders hiring of 627 guest teachers in Uttara Kannada

Karwar: Deputy Director of Public Instruction of Uttara Kannada district has sanctioned hiring of 627 guest teachers in both the educational districts (Karwar and Sirsi), following a government order to the effect.

Officials have instructed the primary and high schools of the twin education districts to hire guest teachers for vacant posts so that students’ education is not affected.

Continue service

The primary schools in Karwar education district will get 80 guest teachers, followed by 30 guest teachers for high school.

Whereas Sirsi education district primary schools will get 459 guest teachers and high schools 58.

These teachers will continue their service till March 2019, the officials further informed.

The appointment of teachers at schools will be made of education district level as per the rules. Priority would be given first to schools with higher demand for teachers, said the circular.

Reserve teachers

The department has also approved hiring of two reserve teachers for schools at taluk level, where there is only one teacher. The service of these reserve teachers can be used when the appointed teacher either goes on maternity leave or on long leave for other reasons.

Mass transfers

The number of guest teachers post will be increased at schools, as per the requirement after the mass transfer of teachers. If aided schools have excess staff, then these teachers will be compulsarily shifted to government schools on ‘On official duty’(OOD) basis, the circular said.

Sources in education department said, Deputy Director of Public Instruction have been instructed to hire guest teachers post to only those vacant posts.

As per the orders, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction is hiring 627 guest teachers, he said.
