Ankola: Grow trees in your yard, citizens will follow suit, horticulture officials told

Ankola: Taluk Panchayat President Sujatha Gaonkar suggested to the officials of Horticulture Department that it would be easier to persuade people to grow more trees if the department first utilises the vacant space available in front of the department office to grow trees.

She was responding to the statement by the official that saplings distributed by the department was not being used properly by the people.

Likewise, she asked officials of Education Department to visit schools whose buildings were in dilapidated condition, and take precautionary measures.

The department official informed that 70% of books had been distributed in the taluk. Taluk Panchayat Member Veena Siddi stated that though schools close at 4:30pm, majority of school teachers are found at bus stands at 3 pm itself.

Animal Husbandry Department official informed that foot and mouth vaccination programme would be launched from June 1.

He said, if any animal dies, a case would be registered and compensation would be provided only after conducting post mortem.

Vice President Tulasi Gouda, Standing Committee Chairperson Manjunath Naik, and others were present.
