Have at least some knowledge of laws: Judge

Karwar: Principal District & Sessions Judge C Rajashekar advised students to have at least some knowledge of rules and laws that govern the country.

Speaking after inaugurating the Constitution Day programme organised by State Legal Service Authority, District Legal Service Authority, District Bar Association and Divekar Commerce College here on Friday, Rajashekar said students must have knowledge of at least those laws that are implied in their field/area of interest.

He said Dr B R Ambedkar led the committee that went through constitutions of various countries and came up with one of the best constitutions in the world. They submitted their compilation to the Government on November 26, 1949. And hence, the day is celebrated as COnstitution Day.

Speaking on the occasion, District Nehru Yuva Kendra Officer Yeshwanth Jadav said Indian Constitution is considered one of the best constitutions in the world and it is also one of the lengthiest written constitutions in the world.

Giving a lecture on ‘Constitution Day and its importance’, advocate R V Bhat said there was necessary for India to have Constitution after the Britishers left the country in 1948 so as to guide the country in the direction that will take it forward. He said, so far, India has introduced 127 amendments to the constitution.

Additional District and Session Court Judge Shivaji G Nalvade, Second District and Session Court Judge B Ganesh, and others were present on the occasion.
