Bhatkal: Heavy rain continues to lash Bhatkal and nearby areas including Byndoor, Kundapur, Gangolli, Udupi, and Mangaluru, extending up to Chikkamagaluru and affecting normal life.
In the outskirts of Mangaluru, landslides caused by continuous rainfall have disrupted highway traffic. In Bhatkal and Udupi, rainwater entered several residential compounds and homes.
While school holidays were declared in Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi districts, no such order was issued in Bhatkal.
Rain with strong winds has persisted since Saturday night. Several roads and house compounds were waterlogged, and water entered homes in areas such as Salman Abad, Muscat Colony, Kogti, and Bunder Road.
The Sarabi river, flowing through Ghausia Street, Mushma Street, Khaleefa Street, Daranta, and Dongarpalli before reaching Bhatkal’s Bunder, is overflowing in some stretches. Water spilled into surrounding areas, especially in Mushma Street, posing risks to pedestrians.
The road to Mundalli near Kudrebirappa Temple is also flooded due to the overflowing Chautani river, disrupting local movement.
In Udupi district, several low-lying areas remain submerged. Byndoor, Gangolli, Kundapur, and Karkala taluks are among the most affected.
