Karwar: Following heavy rain in Siddapur and Sorab talukas, Varada river is overflowing in Banavasi of Sirsi taluk. A bridge over the river at Ajjarni village near Banavasi has been submerged by flood waters.

For the last one month, heavy rain has been lashing the Western Ghats and the coastal regions of the district.

Varada is overflowing due to torrential rain in Siddapur of Uttara Kannada district and Sorab and Sagar taluks of Shivamogga district, which are the catchment areas of the river.

Assistant Commissioner of Sirsi Raju Mogaveer has issued an order stopping playing of vehicles on the bridge on Saturday. On Monday, the bridge was submerged with three-feet of water flowing over it.
About 350 acres of paddy fields spread in Moagalli, Yedeyurabetta and Basi villages have been submerged in the river waters. No property damaged has been reported.

The assistant commissioner of Sirsi, tahsildar and revenue officers visited Ajjarni and other villages and took stock of the situation.
