Kumta: A 57-year-old Assistant Sub-inspector attached to Honnavar police station died in a road accident that happened here in the wee hours of Wednesday, July 19.

According to sources, the deceased Shankar N Gudimani was returning home after completing his day’s work at around 2:00 am. As it was raining heavily, the wheels of his bike skid and he fell down.

Shankar is a resident of Viveknagar in Kumta town.

He sustained serious injuries on leg and head. As it was late in night no one came to his rescue for long hours. It was only after his wife heard a faint call, that she rushed to her husband, who was bleeding profusely. With the help of police officials she rushed her husband to a near by hospital. However, the doctors could not save him as blood loss was very heavy.

He is survived by three children. A native of Mundgod, Shankar had served in police department for the last 36 years.
