Honnavar: The residents of Mahime village in the limits of Upponi Gram Panchayat in Honnavar taluk, are deprived of proper road connectivity.
They are undergoing a lot of hardship due to lack of an appropriate road and bridge across a stream that flows near their village.
Their problem worsens especially during the rainy season as they have to struggle to cross the stream whenever it brims to capacity.
Their repeated pleas to construct the road and the bridge at their village have fallen on deaf ears.
Till date, the elected representatives only gave assurances on solving their problems. Fed up with this, they have launched a letter campaign.
Demanding to address their problems, the villagers have written letters to the Chief Minister, the District in-charge, the Rural development, Public works, and other ministers including MP, MLA, Deputy Commissioner and tahsildar of Honnavar.
Due to the bad condition of the road, bus service has been stopped to the village. School and college students of the village are facing inconvenience. They are forced to walk for about 8 km to reach Mahime Cross on national highway-206. From there, they have to catch buses to reach their schools and colleges. The residents also have to walk for 8 km if they want to go to other places.
Rajesh Naik, a resident of the village said: “it is very difficult to reach our village during the rainy season. Slush filled road makes the movement of people and vehicles difficult. The farmers cannot take their produce to the market for selling. Patients face trouble to cross the road. Hence, at least now, the elected representatives and officials concerned should wake up and should take steps to provide basic facilities to our village,” he urged.
