Uttara Kannada violence: Local leaders dissatisfied over Minister Deshpande's silence

Bhatkal: After recent violence in Uttara Kannada district's Honnavar, Kumta, and Sirsi; various organizations have stated their deep dissatisfaction over District In-charge Minister RV Deshpande's handling of the issue, for not taking any steps.

Expressing his dissatisfaction over Deshpande, president of e Bhatkal's Majlis-e-Islah Wa Tanzeem, Muzammil Kazia said that the Minister should have visited the violence-hit towns and met with the people who were badly affected and compensation from the government should have been provided to the people and families of oppressed. But, sadly, the minister didn't consider this important has remianed silent.

General secretary of North Kanara Muslim United Forum, Muhammad Mohsin Quazi, said that the district's Muslims especially in Honnavar, Kumta and Sirsi faced severe loss after their commercial establishments, restaurants, and even Masjids were targetted and badly damaged. In this situation, District In-charge Minister Deshpande should have met the Muslims and assured them about the future security in the region. "At least a peace meeting with leaders of various organizations could have been arranged in the violence-hit regions. But sadly, no such steps were taken." He said. 

JDS district president B R Naik also attacked the minister, saying:"After the violence, Minister RV Deshpande has not played any role in restoring peace in the district". He further said that negligence and silence of the Minister was the major reason that the matter got out of control. 

Yamuna Gaonkar, the district secretary of CPM, also expressed her anger over Minister Deshpande for his 'least bothered' attitude and lack of efforts in restoring peace in the district after communal clashes.
