Tumakuru: The members of Dalit organisations on Wednesday staged a protest in the city, condemning Pejawar seer Vishwesha Thirtha Swami's statement seeking an amendment to the Constitution.
P N Ramaiah of Dalit Sangarsha Samithi, addressing the protesters, said, "The Indian Constitution is arguably the most comprehensive and complete constitution in the world. The Pejawar seer has insulted the Constitution and the makers of the Constitution. By saying that the Constitution needs to be amended/overhauled, the seer has hurt the sentiments of the citizens of the country."
"If the seer and his followers do not accept the Constitution, let them leave this country and go elsewhere," DSS leader said.
If the seer continues to make such statements, the Dalit organisations will lay siege to the Udupi Mutt, he warned.
Dalit leaders Krishnamurthy Heggere, Hanumaiah, Nagaraj Guleharave, Guluru Rajanna, Ravikumar, Shivaraj Kumar among others were present.
