Haliyal: District In-Charge Minister RV Deshpande inaugurated Indira canteen here at PWD office in Haliyal on Wednesday, 15th March. Speaking to the people on the occasion, he said, opening of Indira Canteens throughout the state for the benefit of the poor is another significant step of the Congress government towards alleviation of hunger.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 52 lakh, the canteen has plans to serve breakfast at Rs 5 and meals at Rs 10 for 200 people every day. Deshpande said in the near future, this limit will be raised to 400 people. The canteen will get Rs 41 lakh as subsidy every year. The minister asked the contractor to maintain quality of food. Civic chief Shankar Belgaonkar and others were present.
