Joida (Dandeli): Forest guard Shivaram Vasant Velipa is battling for life after he fell down from a moving bike while on duty.

Shivaram, who serves as forest guard, at Anashi forest division, in Kali Tiger Reserve Area, in Joida taluk, sustained head injuries after he met with the bike accident.

The accident took place on April 20 while he was returning after delivering a camera chip at the central office. Though he received treatment, he has not recovered. Presently, he is at home battling for life.

Vasant Velipa, father of Shivaram, said: “Shivaram has lost his mental balance following his head injuries. We are poor and unable to afford medical treatment. Forest Department should have taken care of my son’s medical expenses. However, not even a single officer has visited out home till date to enquire about his health.”

Neglected family

Local leader Subhas Velipa charged that officials of Forest Department have neglected Shivaram after he fell from the bike. His family is in dire straits.

If the family does not get assistance from the department, we will launch a protest, he warned.
