Karwar: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lakshmi Priya has instructed all officials to make all necessary arrangements to celebrate International Democracy Day on September 15 in a well-organized and meaningful way in Uttara Kannada district.

Presiding over a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner's office, she emphasized the need to finalize preparations for forming a human chain in the district, as previously directed, except in forest areas and dangerous landslide-prone zones. She instructed the concerned Tahsildars, Taluk Panchayat officials, PDOs, and officials from the Education Department to make the necessary arrangements.

In line with the core objective of democracy, she urged the participation of elected representatives, the general public, various organizations, self-help groups, tribal communities, school and college students, and officials and staff from all departments to ensure the successful celebration of the event.

The human chain event, set to begin at 9 a.m. across the state, will be accompanied by a tree-planting program involving public representatives and citizens. The Deputy Commissioner asked for the program to be well-organized across the district.

She also instructed the Police Department to provide the necessary security for the event and advised the Health Department to take precautionary measures for public safety during the program.

The Deputy Commissioner further urged all urban local bodies to extend their cooperation for the event and directed that awareness be raised among the public, especially in Gram Panchayat areas where the human chain will be formed, about the importance of the event.

Present at the meeting were Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Ishwar Kandoo, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prakash Rajpoot, District Social Welfare Officer Umesh, and officials from various departments at the district level.
