Honnavar crude bomb explosion issue: Suspecian material found in same ground

Bhatkal: After an attempt to throw a crude bomb on Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya in Hosad village in Honnavar on 25th February, Sunday night, the police today have recovered some suspicious material from the place of incident and the investigations are going on.

Sources from Honnavar informed that a suspicious material has been traced today in the same ground where the incident took place the other day and one person in this regard has been taken into custody today. However, speaking over a phone call, Uttar-Kannada district SP Vinayak Patil confirmed about finding the material but said that nobody was arrested today, nor police have taken anybody for interrogation. The investigation is being carried strictly into the matter, he said.

When asked about the incident, the SP said, an explosive burst in the hands of Raymond Miranda on Sunday night at Hosad village, nearly 30 meters from the place where MLA Mankal Vaidya had attended a program. Though Raymond was in a different compound, the distance from him to the stage was nearly 30 meters, he added.

Speaking about the accused Raymond Miranda, the SP has said that he has been admitted to Manipal hospital under critical condition. When asked about whether he was interrogated about the incident, the SP responder that Raymond has been kept in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), so no interrogation has taken place yet.

According to the SP, the inspection of the suspicious material that has been found today in the ground is being done by a bomb detection team from Bengaluru. Further details can be provided only after the reports are released.

It may be noted that Bhatkal MLA Mankal Vaidya had reached Hosad village in Honnavar to attend a district level volleyball tournament, during which a crude bomb was reported to have exploded. Later it was found that the bomb had exploded in the hands of Raymond Miranda injuring his hands very critically.

It is said that Raymond was 30 meters away from the stage in a different compound, from where he tried to throw the crude bomb on the stage, but failed and resulted in explosion in his own hands receiving burn injuries to his hands including face and chest.

Immediately after the incident, police were successful in catching him and was initially taken to local hospital for treatment. As the injuries were critical, he was then shifted to Manipal for advanced treatment.

A case in this regard has been registered in Honnavar police station and strict investigations into the matter are being carried.
