Karwar: Many government officials and police are involved in the network of producing fake documents for transportation of sand in the district, claimed Janashakthi Vedike President Madhav B Nayak. He demanded CBI or judicial probe in this regard.

Briefing reporters here, on Wednesday, Nayak said, irregularities are taking place, as people are not availing sand transport facility on time and when needed.

Already eight people have been arrested on charges of producing fake certificates and there is suspicion that more number of people are involved, he said.

He claimed that ‘hafta’ is being given to all police stations between Ankola and Kalghatgi by the sand mafia.

Hence, the governor, through deputy commissioner, should initiate a detailed probe in this regard.

He said, there are many boards erected in Karwar and Ankola taluks, on information about inauguration and ground breaking ceremony of many developmental works performed by local MLAs. However, this is not their achievement, but their duty, he added.

Appoint doctors, staff

People’s representatives should take measures to appoint staff in government offices, doctors to government hospitals, and resolve drinking water problems, he said.

He said money spent on erecting name boards in these taluks could have been spent over construction of a bridge or houses for poor people.

He said, there was a need for bypass on national highway-66 passing through Karwar. This will help vehicle riders save time and money too.

Leaders Fakeerappa Bhandari, Kashinath Naik, Nagesh Naik and others were present on the occasion.
