Karavali utsav: Warship museum ready for flower show

Karwar: The premises of INS Chapal (K94) warship museum on Rabindranath Tagore Beach in Karwar, has been decked with variety of flowers and fruits for the ensuing Karavali Utsav, which scheduled to be held from December 8 to 10.

The district administration and horticulture department has made elaborate arrangements for the purpose.

Last the fruits and flower exhibition was held at deputy commissioner's office, however, this year, the administration has decided to hold the exhibition at the museum. The organisers have brought 5,000 flower saplings from Pune. These saplings were planted one month ago, and they have now started flowering now, attracting thousands of people who visit the museum.

Kolkata based artists are planing to create a giraffe from marigold flowers, and hornbill from Carnation flowers. Other artists also plan to create elephant, veena, tiger, deer and other models using grass. Portrait of National leaders and authors will be carved on watermelon by artists from Bengaluru and Hubballi, informed Horticulture Department Senior Assistant Director Annappa Naik.

The department also intends to introduce Hydroponics, a method to cultivating plants on water instead of soil.

The exhibition will also give opportunity for the florists to showcase and sell rare flowers and ruits on the occasion. Cottage industrialists of district will also get a platform to sell their pickles, Kokom juice, honey and other horticulture products.

While the Horticulture Department has released Rs four lakh, the Tourism Department has released Rs seven lakh for the fruit and flower exhibition.
