Karnataka govt bans parties, mass gatherings from Dec 30 to Jan 2 across state

Belagavi:  The state government on Tuesday banned new year celebrations in areas surrounding MG Road in Bengaluru and across Karnataka due to the prevailing Covid situation.

The rules will be enforced from December 30 to January 2, he told reporters at Suvarna Soudha here.

During Christmas celebrations, mass gatherings will not be allowed outside church premises, but prayers inside will be allowed, provided the authorities concerned ensure social distancing, he said.

The decision was taken at a virtual high-level meeting with officials and expert advisory committee members. "Large gatherings in areas surrounding MG Road and Brigade Road in Bengaluru will not be allowed on the new years day celebration. Such gatherings also are not permitted across the state," Bommai said.

However as much as 50 percent of the capacity will be allowed inside clubs and pubs, but special events are disallowed, he said.

Restrictions also are imposed on large gatherings on apartment premises, but entry is permitted to those who have taken both the jabs of Covid vaccine, Bommai said.
