Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to explain why the investigation into the alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment scam, including the Veterinary Officer Group-A recruitment, should not be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Justice M Nagaprasanna recorded the petitioners' allegations of large-scale corruption in the selection process and observed that the complaint contained detailed allegations regarding the manner in which candidates were selected.

The court noted that the petitioners had sought a CBI probe, contending that a CID investigation would not inspire confidence in view of past investigations.

Directing the State Public Prosecutor to respond, the court said, "The learned SPP shall respond as to why the investigation in the matter should not be entrusted to the Central Bureau of Investigation."

The court granted the state government one week time to file its objections and directed that the entire investigation material collected till the next date be placed before it. The matter has been posted for further hearing on August 7, 2026.

The KPSC has been in turmoil following Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot suspending KPSC Chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar on July 13, following allegations that he allegedly facilitated the illegal selection of his two daughters as Industrial Extension Officers.
