Karwar’s Adv Devadatt Kamat to head Congress’ Legal Coordination Committee for UP elections

Karwar: Senior advocate of Supreme Court, Devadatt Kamat of Karwar, Uttara Kannada district, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Congress party's legal coordination committee in the Uttar Pradesh elections.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, in his letter to Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President, Ajay Kumar Lalluji informed him about the forming of a Legal Coordination Committee. The purpose of the committee is to coordinate with Election Commission of India and other forums in view of the upcoming Assembly elections. The appointment was made by the Central Committee of the Indian National Congress. 

Congress has also included Varun Chopra as the Vice President in the committee formed to ensure smooth coordination with the Election Commission and other organisations. Other members of the committee are Nishant Patil and Smarhar Singh.

Devadutt Kamat is considered a prominent lawyer of the Supreme Court.  At the age of 37, he took over as Additional Advocate General of the Government of Karnataka. Also, in 2019, the Supreme Court had given the status of Senior Advocate to Devadutt Kamat.
