Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya has directed the Sirsi sub-divisional officers to conduct a field inspection and submit a report at the earliest regarding the rehabilitation of families affected by the 2021 landslide in Kalache in Yellapur taluk.
Chairing the District Disaster Management Authority meeting held on Tuesday at the DC office in Karwar, she emphasized that the Tahsildar should collect detailed data on the affected families and submit it promptly to facilitate appropriate resettlement measures.
The DC also instructed the Departments of Rural Development, Forest, and Revenue to carry out awareness programs in landslide-prone areas, focusing on preventive and precautionary measures to be adopted by local residents.

During the meeting, officials from the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) raised concerns over a landslide at Kadra Balemane, which has blocked the road used for fuel transportation, thereby affecting KPCL operations. Responding to the concern, the DC instructed that the Geological Survey of India (GSI) be consulted, and based on their advice, a technical team should be formed by KPCL to safely remove the debris from the road, ensuring no further hazards.
The DC also directed the Karwar City Municipal Council to ensure proper maintenance of drainage systems to prevent rainwater blockages and ordered the removal of encroachments and dangerous trees or overhanging branches within the city limits to avoid accidents during the monsoon.
The meeting was attended by Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Dilish Shashikant, Additional DC Sajid Mulla, Assistant Conservators of Forests Ravishankar and Yogesh, Sub-Divisional Officer Kalyani Kamble, and senior officials from various district and taluk-level departments.
