Karwar: Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul, on Tuesday, said administration has made all arrangements for conduct of assembly elections in six constituencies of the district on May 12.
Briefing reporters, in Karwar, he said, election officers and assistant election officers have already been appointed.
“The district has total of 11,34,513 voters, including 5,73,626 males, and 5,59,974 female voters. The district has 913 service voters, and total of 1,434 polling stations have been set up,” he said. Voters can verify whether their names figure in the voters’ list by visiting www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in and www.uttarakannada.nic.They can also send an SMS KAEPIC (space) voters’ identity card number to 97319-79899. If they have any complaints, they can call toll free number 1950 or call deputy commissioner’s office number 1077, Nakul said.
Karwar Superintendent of Police, Vinayak V Patil said the police department had taken all necessary steps to ensure free and fair elections. As many as 145 sector officers have been appointed.
Police sub-inspectors, head constables, and 39 rapid response teams have been deployed in each constituency. The para-military forces will arrive in the district shortly, and their deployment in the district is being planned,” he explained.
Submit undertakings:
The SP informed that 227 persons have been booked as a precautionary measure since January to ensure law and order in the district.
Three hundred people have been asked to submit undertakings. Fines have been collected from persons who have indulged in criminal activities after these measures were taken. The process of confiscating the properties of a person in Bhatkal is underway. “The police are keeping an eye on illegal transportation of liquor from Goa to the State. Several persons were arrested and 1,886 litre of illegal liquor have been seized,” he said.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer L Chandrashekar said check posts have been set up at polling stations considered sensitive, and will start functioning from March 28.
