Karwar: Women of Aligadda and Baithkol, on Friday, protested in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office calling for ban on sale of illicit liquor and ganja.
Shyamala Gowda, a resident, claimed that, sale of illicit liquor was on the rise in Baithkol. Goan liquor, was being sold to men folk and young children at night.
Though the police and excise department have been appraised of the activities, they have not taken any action to put an end to it, she charged. Most men are spending their money on alcohol, which is easily available in the village. Fights have become common in every house hold, badly spoiling the family atmosphere, the agitators lamented. It is a matter of concern that the school going children have also started to consume alcohol and ganja.
They handed memorandum to Assistant Deputy Commissioner H Prassanna, consisting information and address of liquor and ganja sellers shops and homes.
