Karwar: Minority welfare benefits must reach eligible communities effectively: Nisar Ahmed

Karwar: Karnataka State Minorities Commission Chairman U. Nisar Ahmed has directed officials to ensure that the full benefits of welfare programmes implemented by various government departments reach minority communities effectively and without delay.

Chairing a review meeting on the implementation of the Prime Minister’s New 15-Point Programme at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Karwar on Tuesday, Ahmed stressed the need for coordinated efforts to improve educational and socio-economic development among minority communities across Uttara Kannada district.

He instructed officials of the Education Department and the Women and Child Development Department to closely monitor school enrolment among minority students and ensure that no child is deprived of education or drops out of school. He also called for adequate teacher strength in minority educational institutions and directed authorities to provide essential infrastructure, including toilets and drinking water facilities.

Seeking a comprehensive assessment of educational trends, Ahmed instructed officials to submit within 10 days a detailed report covering student enrolment, dropout rates and SSLC examination participation over the past decade.

Highlighting opportunities for higher education, he noted that banks provide educational loans of up to Rs 7.5 lakh without collateral and urged students to make use of the scheme. He also directed the Lead Bank authorities to increase the sanction of educational loans for eligible students.
Ahmed reminded urban local bodies that government guidelines mandate the allocation of 15 per cent of welfare scheme funds for minority development and instructed all municipal institutions in the district to comply strictly with the provision.

Referring to civic issues in Bhatkal, he called for an early resolution of problems arising from the town’s underground drainage system.

The Commission Chairman also directed the Labour Department to organise outreach camps in minority-populated areas across all taluks to facilitate access to welfare benefits. He specifically instructed officials to conduct a special camp in Bhatkal within a week and submit a compliance report.

Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr Dileesh Shashi, Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N, Special Duty Officer Mujibulla Jafari, District Minority Welfare Officer Satish, and officials from various departments attended the meeting.
