Karwar: A school teacher, Umesh Gunagi (50), lost his life in a tragic accident on Friday when a lorry collided with his bike at Habbuwada in Karwar.

Umesh, a resident of Kinner village in Karwar taluk, had admitted his father to the Civil Hospital in Karwar for treatment on his way to school in Deval Makki, on Friday morning, when a speeding lorry struck his bike, resulting in Umesh's immediateumesh-gungi-karwar demise.

Following the accident, a large crowd gathered at the scene, expressing anger and blaming the substandard road conditions for the tragic incident. Protesters demanded the presence of road construction contractors and relevant officers, vowing not to allow the removal of the deceased's body until the officials arrived. Tensions escalated briefly during this protest.

Upon receiving the information, Karwar DySP Valentine D'Souza and other police officials reached the location. Through discussions with the protestors, they managed to diffuse the situation and arranged for the body to be transported to the government hospital for post-mortem.
