Karwar: Spectacular Dog Show at Karavali Utsava Entertains Spectators

Karwar: As part of the Karavali Utsav celebrations, a grand dog show was organised on Saturday at Maladevi Ground, Karwar, jointly by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Animal Husbandry. The event attracted a large number of animal lovers and members of the public.

Dogs of various breeds, including Labrador, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Mudhol Hound, Pomeranian, Venus Corgi, Rajapalayam and Belgian Malinois, showcased their intelligence, agility and skills. Trained dogs from the District Police Department and the Industrial Security Force also impressed the audience with their disciplined drills and adventurous performances.

Police dogs Shiny, Marvel and Akhir demonstrated obedience and command-based exercises, while Aira, Abhay and Bhairav from the Industrial Security Force performed thrilling stunts, winning widespread appreciation. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepan M.N. felicitated the dogs of both departments with cash rewards of ₹10,000.

Two dogs brought from Bengaluu by Kumar also received public applause for their impressive intelligence-based performances.

Dogs from within and outside the district participated in the show. Prizes were awarded to winners in the Champion category as well as in all other divisions.

Veterinary doctors present at the event educated the public on healthy dog care, proper nutrition and mandatory vaccinations. Arrangements were also made for the free adoption of indigenous breed puppies.

In the competition results, Sunil Udadi’s German Shepherd won the first prize and received ₹25,000, Venkappa Navalagi’s Mudhol breed dog secured the second prize with ₹15,000, while Suhas from Davangere won the third prize for his Beagle, receiving ₹10,000.

A total of 118 dogs of 25 breeds were registered for the event. Of these, 52 dogs from 21 breeds participated in the competition, while 11 puppies took part in the puppy category.

Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Dileesh Shashi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajid Mulla, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Mohan Kumar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Accounts Officer Anandsa Habib, and other officials visited the venue and distributed prizes.
